About 3CMedia

3CMedia is a scholarly e-journal which aims to provide a forum for promoting, reporting and debating research in community-based, citizen's and 'third sector' media and culture. Contributions covering a wide range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, research methods and topics are welcome, including:

  • ethnographic, sociological and cultural studies in community, citizen's and third sector media
  • critical analyses of relevant media and communications policy discourses, regulatory developments, industry practices and ethics
  • pedagogical approaches, experiments, and applications in a range of formal and informal learning environments
  • non-government initiatives in communication and media uses
  • historical investigations and perspectives
  • studies of technology adoption and diffusion
  • theorisation of volunteer/professional, consumer/citizen and market/civil relations and transformations
  • structured reflection upon creative and professional practice as research in community, citizen's and third sector media
  • studies of social, human and cultural capital invested in, and derived from, community-based, citizen's and third sector media
  • innovation and entrepreneurship in community-based, citizen's and third sector media
  • international and comparative analysis
  • involvement in public communication, representation, participation, democracy, equity and social justice
  • definitions of community-based, third sector and citizen's media and culture.

3CMedia is published by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia. It has been established as an annual publication, although special issues may be published from time to time in response to demand and the availability of suitable material. Enquiries about special issues should be directed to the editor.

All papers published in 3CMedia have been subject to a process of blind peer review and many are based upon presentations made in the academic stream of the Community Broadcasting Association's Annual Conference.
