Mick Nicholls
For 3BBR–FM volunteer, Mick Nicholls, music has been a lifelong passion. ‘Both my wife I have been keen music fans for the forty years we have been married’, says Mick. While courting, the couple’s favorite night entertainment was to sit in the car and listen to John Bright present music requests on 3AW. Having a collection of over 1,000 records and CD’s, with styles ranging from ‘oldie type songs’ from the 1800s through to the 1940s, to rock & roll from the 1950s & 60s, classical, Broadway and military band music, Mick has found his niche in the Sounds of West Gippland. As an avid 3BBR-FM listener for many years, and now a presenter, Mick is happy ‘putting something back into what is really an extraordinarily valuable community service’.
Another 3BBR-FM music aficionado, Peter Gladwell, whose diverse music tastes range from classical to 1950's and 60's rock and roll, hosts the Sounds of West Gippsland program every Friday afternoon (3pm-6pm). Peter, who spent forty years working all over the world in International Trade in senior management positions with multi-national companies, is a 3BBR-FM newcomer, joining the station as a presenter last year, and making many new friends along the way.
For Mick, the satisfaction of volunteering is both motivating and enjoyable. ‘While I am only just starting out and still take a little time to get fully comfortable behind the console…I appreciate the tremendous support from other volunteers and our audience’, he says.
