The red carpet (more of a mauve really) rolled out at the inaugural Community TV Antennas Night held in Melbourne on the 28 February 2004. The 500 seat theatre was filled to capacity while the event went live to air across the east coast and replayed in Perth the following week.
31 Antennas were awarded to producers and stations over the one and a half hour live program.
Channel 31 Melbourne's Kristy Fuller and Station Manager Greg Dee deserve a medal for their tireless efforts in establishing and producing what will now be an annual event.
Vice President Community Broadcasting Association of Australia and President Community Television National Standing Committee, Andrew Brine in his speech on the night said that:
"Tonight is not about television stations, it is about the people within our communities who produce and provide a diverse range of programs to Community Broadcasters around Australia.
It is about recognising the hard work, valuable contributions and positive impact these people have on their local communities.
Community Television in Australia for a decade has struggled under uncertainty of a permanent Licence and has had to operate within a Policy vacuum. It is without doubt a credit to all those people that have been a part of these valuable local services that they have achieved the levels and diversity of local programming."
