Tasman Fm is a radio service which provides information and entertainment to the people of the Tasman and Forestier Peninsulas. It aims to encourage community access and participation, thus fostering social cohesion in this widely dispersed rural community. The association was formed in the wake of the Port Arthur tragedy of April 1996. While the community wishes to move forward rather than focus on the past, the objectives of Tasman FM remain the same.
Specifically, the purposes are to-
-assist and provide access to any group wishing to use the facility
-promote a cohesive community by the pursuit of common interests
-improve the dissemination of information in times of crisis
-provide an educational tool for the school and the wider community
-provide experience and training in the electronic media
-foster an increased awareness of local, national and internation affairs
-afford a voice to special needs groups, eg, elderly, print handicapped.
-promote community events and programs
-promote the general economic activity of the region
