Infrastructure funding placed in hands of communities

Queensland Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy and Development, Judy Spence, formally allocated $6 million for Indigenous communities to operate and maintain their own infrastructure. Ms Spence signed a funding agreement on this day to strengthen Aboriginal control over essential infrastructure in the State's fourteen Aboriginal Deed of Grant in Trust (DOGIT) Communities, Marpuna Corporation and the Shires of Aurukun and Mornington Island.
