Mixcloud
Some websites offer easy audio sharing options that don’t require a lot of technical know-how and one of these is Mixcloud, which enables hosting and sharing of audio, to help connect radio content to listeners.
Like other social media platforms, Mixcloud allows listeners to publicly ‘like’ or endorse your audio to extend your reach. Listeners cannot download material from Mixcloud, but are free to stream it on demand.
You don’t need an account to listen to content on Mixcloud but you do need an account to post content. Users can sign in with a Facebook account, or email and password. Your profile can be customised from the ‘dashboard’ option at the top of the website.
Material to upload must fall into one of the following categories:
- It must be either a radio show, DJ mix set or podcast
- If it is music it must contain at least 8 tracks and tracklistings are required
- It must be in mp3 format
Once uploaded, content can be tagged by category.
More detailed information about uploading and promoting your audio content can be found in the Mixcloud tutorials. Check these tutorials for detailed instructions also on how to embed your audio on web pages and other ways you can use Mixcloud.
Account holders can join or form groups focused on their interest areas and listeners can search by keyword tags, follow content creators and receive recommendations based on their listening history.
