WordPress is free and open source software. Free and open source means that the software has been created in collaboration by a community of peers and is freely available for use and remains a resource that is open for continued input and development.

WordPress offers two solutions for downloading and installing the CMS.

Solution 1

WordPress recommends four web hosting partners who provide a hosting environment suitable for WordPress and offer an easy download and one-click installation of the WordPress content management system. This solution requires no technical skill and is recommended for users with no experience in installing and configuring software.

Solution 2

WordPress provides a download and a handy guide to installing the WordPress content management system but technical skill is required. The handy guide outlines the minimum requirements for installing WordPress and should be referred to before proceeding. This solution is only recommended for users with experience in installing and configuring software.

Visit http://wordpress.org/ and click the download tab on the menu bar. The landing page will give you the two solutions to downloading and installing WordPress. Choose the solution that best suits you and follow the instructions.

After you have downloaded and installed WordPress, select one of the templates offered in the WordPress range provided in this resource and embed the template as per the WordPress or web host instructions.

THEN

use the formatting tools to arrange the content and customise the templates to personalise your web site. Consider the tips given in the design, development and content section.
